The Makerere University – Indiana University (MU-IU) Research Collaboration recently received funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to offer training to upcoming Ugandan Scientists in various fields and disciplines. The purpose of this research training and development grant is to build research capacity to develop and strengthen the scientific leadership and expertise needed for research in Uganda and East Africa in general.
Global Health Uganda (GHU) on behalf of the MU-IU Research Collaboration now invites applications for a two (2) year postdoctoral position.
The focus of the position is on Scientific Research paper writing and all research project data will be within our existing studies in Uganda. In particular, the successful candidate will be engaged in working and writing papers from our research of observational and interventional studies that focus on central nervous system infections, malaria, sickle cell anaemia, high dependancy care, child health and development, neuro-cognitive functioning, epilepsy and the biomarkers in these areas. In addition, she/ he will also be enganged in writing grants for funding. Thus, the successful candidate will work with the Principal Investigators (PIs) on both the completed and ongoing projects to:
- 1. Analyze data from the completed studies
- 2. Write manuscripts from the completed projects
- 3. Mentor masters and doctoral trainees
- 4. Develop new areas of research
All applicants must show a commitment to pursuing an academic and/or research career within East Africa.
The fellowship will provide a monthly stipend and medical insurance.
Eligibility
Applicants should have completed their doctoral studies in the last three years. They should hold an MBChB and a master’s degree in a health-related field.
All applicants should not be above 45 years of age at the time of applying and must be Ugandan.

- Supporting letters from two professional referees, together with their telephone and email contacts
- A current curriculum vitae of not more than 3 pages

The closing date for receipt of applications is November 15th ,2020 by 5pm EAT.
